Seeing the Unseen
Costume design, immersive performance
The emerging interest in digital environments and virtual reality, as well as systems of control in the public domain, formed the starting point for Seeing the Unseen. Smeeing explored where the real and surreal meet, through the design of a costume and the direction of a performance. Seeing the Unseen explores the potential of perception of architectural structures through reflections, to create new realities and experiences of surrounding space.
The immersive performance with contemporary dancers responded to interior public environments and asked the audience to look at the surrounding spaces of everyday life from a new perspective. The mirror costumes worn by the dancers created a surreal spectacle, with the virtual aesthetic placed in the physical environment of the everyday. The mirror, as a portal to an alternative world, enabled the audience to see the unseen.
