Art-direction of the Industrial Design Business Fair

The IOB is the annual Industrial Design Business Fair, which takes place in the Delft University of Technology. The fair of 2009 has been organised and designed by a team of 7 industrial designers. As chairman Smeeing was responsible for the art-direction of the two-day event, introducing the Inspiration Garden and the IOBios that screened design related documentaries.

The team wanted to create an open, light and airy fair for the 9^th edition. The newly introduced Inspiration Garden stimulated the open experience of the fair. In a more practical way the stands were designed to function as blank canvases where design companies could present themselves. The semi transparent stands enhanced the open, light and airy feel of the fair. Strokes of white fabric formed a repeating pattern showing the boundaries of the fair. Different ways of walking through the fair created changing experiences of openness.
